چکیده

Structural multiplicity has a significant effect on the solution of an MINLP model for process synthesis problems. The optimization model may also have built-in redundancy that cannot always be directly derived from the multiplicity of the superstructure. A basic GDP representation (BGR) involving logical relations is defined, and can be constructed by applying a standard natural representation of the process. Basic MINLP representation (BMR) is defined by transforming the logical relations to algebraic ones. MINLP representation (MR) is defined through a fixed form of BMR. Equivalency and representativeness of MR-s in general form can be a

Process flowsheet superstructures: Structural multiplicity and redundancy: Part II: Ideal and binarily minimal MINLP representations

The essential problems, namely representativeness and uniqueness, in defining mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP) representation (MR) is solved in Part I by first defining a basic MR (BMR) that: (1) can be automatically constructed from an easier formable standard GDP representation and (2) serves as a reference representation. Binary and continuous multiplicity of MR are also defined ...

Relaxation strategy for the structural optimization of process flowsheets

This paper presents an Equality Relaxation variant to the Outer-Approximation algorithm for solving mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problems that arise in structural optimization of process flowsheets. The proposed algorithm has the important capability of being able to explicitly handle nonlinear equations within MINLP formulations that have linear integer variables and linear/nonl...

Integration of modular process simulators under the Generalized Disjunctive Programming framework for the structural flowsheet optimization

The optimization of chemical processes where the flowsheet topology is not kept fixed is a challenging discrete-continuous optimization problem. Usually, this task has been performed through equation based models. This approach presents several problems, as tedious and complicated component properties estimation or the handling of huge problems (with thousands of equations and variables). We pr...

Review of mixed-integer nonlinear and generalized disjunctive programming methods in Process Systems Engineering

This work presents a review of the applications of mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) in process systems engineering (PSE). A review on the main deterministic MINLP solution methods is presented, including an overview of the main MINLP solvers. Generalized disjunctive programming (GDP) is an alternative higher-level representation of MINLP problems. This work reviews some methods for s...

Improved Formulations and Computational Strategies for the Solution and Nonconvex Generalized Disjunctive Programs

Many optimization problems require the modelling of discrete and continuous variables, giving rise to mixed-integer linear and mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MILP / MINLP). An alternative representation of MINLP is Generalized Disjunctive Programming (GDP)1. GDP models are represented through continuous and Boolean variables, and involve algebraic equations, disjunctions, and logic propos...
